Mother’s Day sizzled across both Facebook and Instagram in May, while Memorial Day was the other holiday or event of choice for Facebook users and Instagrammers chatted it up about Cinco de Mayo, according to Facebook IQ’s analysis of Hot Topics for the month.

Prince Harry dominated talk about people and culture on both Facebook and Instagram in May.

Sports fans on Facebook gravitated toward the National Basketball Association last month, as LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers, along with the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics, were Hot Topics. Instagram users also talked NBA, but conversation was led by Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Chris Paul.

Publix, GoPro and the Nintendo Switch led brands and products talk on Facebook in May, while Hot Topics on Instagram included Blue Apron, Adderall and the Subaru Forester.

Entertainment Hot Topics on Facebook last month included 13 Reasons Why, Donald Glover and, for obvious reasons, Roseanne, while Glover was joined on the Instagram list by Meghan Markle and Pusha T.

Finally, Hot Topics in food and drink on Facebook in May included takoyaki, Prosecco and Malibu Rum, while Instagrammers were thirsty for Negroni, Hpnotiq and DeLeón tequila.

Facebook IQ measured subjects that drove disproportionately high volumes of discussion on both social platforms, marking the latest in a Facebook-Adweek Hot Topics monthly series that began in 2015.
