Howard Sherman moves up to president at Doremus.

NEW YORK Doremus New York managing director Howard Sherman has taken on the additional global role of president, the Omnicom Group agency said. The position is new.

As president, Sherman becomes the No. 2 executive at the agency, after worldwide CEO Carl Anderson, 55. Sherman's expanded duties include adding new global clients, growing existing client relationships and assisting local offices.

The promotion comes after a string of wins for the New York office this year, including Cigna Corp., Adecco, URS and BearingPoint. Sherman, 52, will continue to steer the office in his other role as managing director.

"He has been instrumental in sharpening the agency's offering and attracting and retaining top-tier talent," said Anderson, to whom Sherman continues to report. "As a result, Doremus is considered a world-class agency that is setting new standards in the [business-to-business] and corporate communications space."

Sherman joined Doremus in August 2004, from Interpublic Group's Howard Merrell & Partners in Raleigh, N.C., where he was president and chief operating officer.

Before Howard Merrell, Sherman was an executive vice president at New York shop Shepardson, Stern + Kaminsky. In the late 1990s, he was president of IPG's Angotti, Thomas, Hedge, a New York shop known for its work for Foster's Beer and Saab.

Beyond New York, Doremus has offices in San Francisco, London, Frankfurt, Hong Kong and Singapore. Clients shared by multiple offices include TRW, ITT Corp. and Deutsche Bank.
