The season finale of HBO's Game of Thrones finished a distant second

Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s technical knockout victory over Conor McGregor Saturday night drove a staggering 26.983 million interactions across Facebook and Twitter, according to the Nielsen Social Content Ratings for the week of Aug. 21.

The boxing match tallied more than six times the interactions of the season finale of HBO’s Game of Thrones, which led television series and specials with 4.175 million interactions across the two social networks.

Game of Thrones was followed by MTV’s Video Music Awards (3.961 million total interactions) and President Donald Trump’s address (1.158 million).

National Football League preseason contests accounted for seven of the 10 entries on the sports chart, led by the New York Giants at the Cleveland Browns, on ESPN and ESPN Deportes, with 623,000 interactions across Facebook and Twitter, and NBC’s presentation of the San Francisco 49ers at the Minnesota Vikings (590,000).
