BBC Planet Earth II Mini-Episodes Are Coming to Snapchat
Planet Earth II will debut on BBC Feb. 18, but Snapchat users can view a mini-episode the day before
Fans of popular BBC travel documentary Planet Earth II will be able to watch mini-episodes of the series via Snapchat’s Discover section the day before they air on television, starting Feb. 17.
Planet Earth II will debut on BBC in the U.S. and Canada Feb. 18.
The mini-episodes will last four to six minutes, and Kurt Wagner of Recode reported that they will run alongside ads, but Snapchat parent Snap Inc. would not disclose how revenue from those ads was being shared, or whether it was licensing the Planet Earth II content from BBC.
Snapchat is putting its Snapcodes to use in this initiative, as users can click on the Planet Earth II Snapcode to unlock preview footage, subscribe to the mini-episodes and view the most recent episodes after they are no longer live on the Snapchat application.
