Susan Epstein joined Meta’s civil rights team as associate general counsel for civil rights in technology.

Most recently, Epstein taught software engineering and algorithmic decision-making at Stanford University’s Computer Science Department and a civil rights seminar focused on education law at the University of Chicago.

Prior to that, she worked with organizations including the artificial intelligence research lab at SRI International, Apple, Stanford University’s office on sexual assault prevention (which she founded) and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.

At Meta, Epstein will focus on instilling civil rights best practices throughout the company with regard to machine learning, virtual and augmented reality and emerging technologies.
