Twitter Saw a 71% Increase in Gaming Conversation in the Second Half of March 2020

Animal Crossing: New Horizons leads chatter on the platform so far this year

Video games are currently a hot topic on Twitter, with the coronavirus pandemic keeping people at home and eliminating other forms of entertainment.

The social network revealed Monday that it saw a 71% increase in gaming-related conversation volume and a 38% increase in unique authors in the second half of March, when social distancing measures were put in place.

For the U.S. specifically, Twitter said there was an 89% increase in conversation volume and a 50% increase in unique authors.

Conversations picked up following the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons March 20. New Horizons has been the most-tweeted-about game on Twitter globally so far in 2020, followed by Fate/Grand Order and Final Fantasy in second and third place, respectively.
