Twitter said last month that it would begin adding warning labels to content containing synthetic and manipulated media March 5, and the label made its debut over the weekend on a tweet by White House director of social media Dan Scavino.

Twitter

Scavino tweeted video footage of former Vice President and current Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden speaking at a rally in Kansas City, Mo., Saturday.

Biden actually said during his speech, “Excuse me. We can only re-elect Donald Trump if in fact we get engaged in this circular firing squad here. It’s got to be a positive campaign.”

Scavino tweeted only the portion in which Biden said, “Excuse me. We can only re-elect Donald Trump.”

Twitter confirmed that the tweet was labeled based on its synthetic and manipulated media policy, adding that the label is currently not showing up in tweet detail—the social network is working on a fix—but it is visible in the timeline.

The social network provided more color in a Twitter Moment.
