Facebook to Match Up to $20M in Donations for Coronavirus Relief Efforts

$10M apiece will go to the Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund and the CDC Foundation

Facebook will match up to $20 million in donations to support global relief efforts for Covid-19: $10 million apiece to the Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund started by the United Nations Foundation and the World Health Organization, and to the CDC Foundation, which will begin a fundraiser in the next few weeks focused on the U.S.

The social network also reaffirmed that 100% of money raised on Facebook and Instagram goes directly to the organizations.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post Friday, “A lot of people have told us that they want to help fight coronavirus but aren’t sure how, so we’ve worked with the United Nations Foundation and the World Health Organization to start a Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund, where anyone can go to make a donation.”

The initiative had already raised over $300,000 within its first two-plus hours of going live.
