Facebook Takes a Beating From Comparably, Too

Rankings of large corporations have not been kind to Facebook of late. After the social network plummeted 16 spots on Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work in 2020 list earlier this week, the company and its CEO suffered similar fates in annual rankings from workplace culture and compensation monitoring site Comparably. Mark Zuckerberg placed a respectable ninth on Comparably’s 2017 Best CEOs list, the Facebook co-founder fell to No. 33 in 2018, and then to No. 39 in 2019. And Facebook followed a similar trend in Comparably’s Best Company Culture Rankings, going from No. 3 in 2017 to No. 16 last year and all the way down to No. 31 this year. Comparably CEO Jason Nazar said of the CEO rankings, “The best executives not only possess strong leadership skills that drive business objectives, they are transparent and personally engaged with their teams. The outstanding leaders on our annual Best CEOs list have these attributes and more, according to employee sentiment on Comparably.com within the last year." Tech CEOs that made the top 50 were: Eric Yuan, Zoom Video Communications, No. 1; Brian Halligan, HubSpot (2); Satya Nadella, Microsoft (4); John Legere), T-Mobile (5); Jeff Weiner, LinkedIn (6); Sasan Goodarzi, Intuit (11); Sundar Pichai, Google (13); Ryan Smith, Qualtrics (14); Jay Kreps, Confluent (19); Daniel Dines, UiPath (23); Logan Green, Lyft (34); Sam Gilliland, Cherwell Software (35); Zuckerberg (39); Jeff Bezos, Amazon (41); and Tim Cook, Apple (47). Nazar said on company culture, “Fostering an exceptional workplace culture means providing a positive work environment, from fair compensation and career advancement opportunities to great leadership and perks. The employers on our annual list had the top ratings on Comparably.com, beating out tens of thousands of companies to claim their rightful place among the Top 100 Best Places to Work of 2019.” Tech companies in the top 50 were: Microsoft (No. 1), Zoom Video Communications (2), Google (4), HubSpot (5), Qualtrics (9), T-Mobile (10), LinkedIn (12), Confluent (20), Ultimate Software (26), Facebook (31), UiPath (34), Apple (42), Coupa Software (46) and GoDaddy (47). Nazar said on diversity, “Employers who create workplaces that inspire, encourage and support all diverse voices and contributions are critical to the growth, creativity and innovation of businesses. The top-rated companies on our list achieve this by creating an inclusive employee experience that incorporates active leadership participation, a focus on equity and fairness and an emphasis on engagement and retention programs that elevate the entire workforce.” Comparably does not rank companies for diversity, but it does provide its top 50, and tech companies that qualified (in alphabetical order) were: Adobe, Concentrix, Confluent, Facebook, Google, HubSpot, LinkedIn, T-Mobile, UiPath, Ultimate Software, VMware and Zoom Video Communications. Finally, Nazar said on the topic of best companies for women, “It is important to understand the sentiment of women and how they feel about their workplaces relative to men. Thanks to self-submitted ratings on Comparably.com over the past year, we have identified the companies that female employees collectively rated as having the best attributes such as fair pay, career advancement opportunities, benefits and more.” Comparably also does not rank companies for women, but it does provide its top 50, and tech companies that qualified (in alphabetical order) were: Alkami Technology, AppZen, Concentrix, Facebook, GoDaddy, Google, HubSpot, Intuit, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Qualtrics, T-Mobile, UiPath, Ultimate Software, Vivint Smart Home and Zoom Video Communications.
