Facebook: How to Use Your Avatar as Your Profile Picture

The change will be temporary

Facebook recently rolled out Avatars in the U.S. Facebook

Facebook recently launched Avatars, its take on Bitmoji, in the U.S. This feature allows users to create a personalized Avatar, or emoji, of themselves, which will be placed on stickers that can be shared in comments, Stories and more on the Facebook platform. After you’ve created your Avatar, you have the option to use it a temporary profile picture. Our guide will show you how this is done.

Note: These screenshots were captured in the Facebook application on iOS.

Step 1: Tap the three horizontal lines in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

Step 2: Scroll down and tap “See More.”

Step 3: Tap “Avatars.” Note: If you frequently access the Avatars menu, you may see the Avatars button above the See More menu.

Step 4: Tap the arrow icon in the top-right corner of the screen.

Step 5: Tap “Set as Temporary Profile Picture.”

Step 6: Tap the pose you want to use, as well as the background color you would like your profile picture to have. Then tap “Next.” Note: When you change your profile picture, an update will be shared to your News Feed. If you want to type a comment about your new profile picture before moving on, tap, “Say something about your profile picture” near the top of the screen to do so.

Step 7: Tap “Save” to share your new profile picture. Note: By default, your Avatar will remain your temporary profile picture for one week. If you want to change this duration, tap “1 week” near the bottom of the screen. You can select from one hour, one day, one week, or a custom duration before updating your profile picture.
