In honor of Giving Tuesday, Facebook Gaming rolled out the ability for content creators in the U.S. to livestream for charity. The social network tested this feature with five video game content creators in October.
For Giving Tuesday, 25 streamers have teamed up with organizations such as Autism Speaks, Call of Duty Endowment, the Humane Society of the United States and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to raise funds while streaming. While the charity livestreaming feature is being made available first to streamers in the U.S., donations can be accepted from viewers around the world.
The charity livestreaming tool set lets creators set and change their donation goals over time, turn on a donation progress bar and share donation alerts that are overlaid on their current stream and in the associated chat window. When a viewer chooses to donate, a donation window will pop up on their current screen so that they don’t have to leave the stream’s page.
Facebook said additional creators will receive access to the charity livestreaming tools in the future. In addition, more charitable organizations will be added for creators to choose from.
The company added that it helped raise over $45 million for charity on Giving Tuesday in 2017.
