Colors, Subjects and Styles: Three Visual Trends for Spring and Summer

Color blocking, bohemian wanderlust and feminine power are some of the biggest visuals of the season

Visual media is taking over the digital and social media landscape. Indeed, the demand for high-quality images, video, infographics and other visual content has only increased in recent years, and it is expected to continue indefinitely. While the need for visual media never abates, what does change are the styles and trends.

Image marketplace EyeEm analyzed content from its community of more than 20 million photographers and identified three specific trends for the spring and summer seasons: color, subjects and styles.

The strongest color trend this season seems to be color blocking, with highlights of black and red, silver and “millennium pink.” Designer Isaac West uses all of the above in some of his recent work on Instagram, and he even uses his subjects’ skin, hair and clothing to create dynamic color blocking.

While the color trends are more popular on Snapchat, EyeEm head of photography Xavier Antoinet told Social Pro Daily that “gender blend” and femininity, two of our visual trends for this season, are popping up on Twitter due to the political nature of the platform.” Feminine power is also making a strong showing on Instagram, where you can expect images of women displaying natural strength, defying body shaming standards and embodying the beauty of motherhood.

The universe smiled on me recently & I received a very generous gift- a $500 @k.deer gift certificate. I was about to pull a Cher Horowitz and blow it retail therapy style but then I was like, “JESSAMYN, GIVE THAT ISH TO SOMEONE WHO DOESN’T ALREADY OWN 23897598 PAIRS OF YOGA LEGGINGS.” You guys are amazing human beings and it would give me so much happiness to bestow this gift card on someone who really deserves it. This brand is dope as fuck- @k.deer sizing runs from kid sizes all the way up to a ladies 4XL- the waistlines are nice and high (HERE’S LOOKING AT YOU, FAT YOGA BABE SQUAD!) & they have a whole mess of patterns at your disposal. Damnit, they just added new patterns! Maybe I shouldn’t be giving away such a rad gift….too late now, Jessamyn! Anyway, if you wanna win a $500 @k.deer gift card: 1. Follow @mynameisjessamyn & @k.deer on instagram and/or facebook 2. Leave a Comment on Facebook and/or Instagram with a yoga pose that is teaching your ass a lesson right now- for example, I’m currently on a #chaturanga heavy diet and it’s teaching me things about myself that I didn’t know I needed to learn. It might be #downwardfacingdog, #vasisthasana2, #dolphinpose, #bowpose- clue me in on the pose that is teaching you lessons via a necessary ass kicking. 3. ….That’s it. Comment on both facebook and instagram for double chances to win! Deadline for entries is February 3rd at midnight EST. May the odds be ever in your favor, y’all. Throwback to wearing @k.deer leggings while practicing #headstand #splits in my London flat. Oh London, I actually really miss you.

According to Antoinet, the lifestyle trend in photography took a “blogger-esque” or “hipster” approach: cool local coffee shops and close-ups of avocado toast. However, he added, there’s a “new bohemian” trend on the rise.

He told Social Pro Daily:

(It’s) a look at how people travel the world. This style focuses on traveling slowly, taking the time to escape and adventure to unique places. 2017 seems to be the year of the train.
