Picsart Now Lets Users Generate Images and Text With AI

Digital art studio Picsart is tapping advances in artificial intelligence to add new image and copy generation tools to its platform. The new tool allows users to simply type in a word or phrase and instantaneously generate a passably realistic image that can be used for design purposes. The software draws on new machine learning capabilities that have the potential to transform the creative industry but have also raised questions about copyright infringement and artistic propriety. Picsart is also offering a text generation tool designed for small businesses to write copy for digital ads and social media bios with options for different tones of language. Tools like these have become more popular for iterating ideas and some rote forms of copy generation as systems like research group OpenAI's GPT-3 have made natural language artificial intelligence more accessible to developers. "Generative AI is a powerful new resource for visual creators and anyone who needs content," Picsart founder and CEO Hovhannes Avoyan said in a press release. "There are two huge advantages of this technology: The first is making creativity accessible to new people and the second is increasing productivity for those who already create. The tools we’re launching today are the first of many generative AI features we plan to roll out." Picsart has previously experimented with AI on a tool that scores videos with auto-generated music and a font generator that matches text to specific styles. The rollout comes a little over a year after Picsart raised $130 million in August of 2021 to bring its valuation to more than $1 billion. The company claims to boast 150 million users with a growing line of products dedicated to the needs of small business customers. The company's new image generation tool can be found in its iOS app or its web editor, and the copy studio can be found within its Quicktools suite. How AI Is Making Voice Chatbots More Realistic Than Ever AI image generation has grown more popular and accessible with the release of tools like OpenAI's Dall-E 2, Stability AI's Stable Diffusion and Midjourney, but most major creative software offerings are only beginning to integrate this technology. TikTok rolled out a basic image generation feature earlier this year, and Adobe announced in October 2022 that it would start to explore new features around this tech in 2023.
