YouTube Exceeds 2 Billion Daily Views And Celebrates 5 Years

Just weeks after its first birthday, YouTube announced that the site has surpassed 2 billion views per day. Just to give you an idea of how big a number that is, if you started counting to 2 billion today it would take you 190 days to get there! In honor of this momentous occasion, and YouTube's 5th birthday, the video site is celebrating with the launch of the YouTube Five Year channel. Over the last 5 years, YouTube has transformed itself into the number 1 online video site, far ahead of similar sites in view count, popularity and virality. YouTube supports HD, 3D and live streaming, gives ordinary Joes the chance to make it big, and gives users from around the globe the opportunity to express themselves. Over 24 hours of video is uploaded each minute and views far surpass that. YouTube has molded itself into one of the most successful sites on the Internet. The YouTube Five Year channel is designed to celebrate all that is YouTube, with users uploading videos that describe how the site has changed their lives in "My YouTube Story". Top YouTube creators like Nigahiga have already uploaded their videos and you are invited to do the same. Selected videos will appear on the channel's video wall. YouTube has also asked a number of entertainment bigwigs to compile their favorite YouTube videos, as part of the project. Conan O'Brien, Katie Couric, and Vint Cerf have compiled lists of their favorite YouTube viewers, among other luminaries. On the YouTube blog, the YouTube team says, "Since we never could have predicted all that happened in YouTube's first five years, we certainly can't imagine what the future will look like. But we do know there's a lot more to be done." The average YouTube user currently spends 15 minutes a day on the site, but they are shooting for a lot more. The YouTube team wants "to give you all the tools and support to make YouTube both your career and your community." We can't wait to see what's ahead for this online video giant!
