Apps Directory Suffers Major Delays

For those tracking the new Facebook applications, you probably have heard all the buzz surrounding delays for being added to the Facebook applications directory. Jeff Reifman posted on Slashdot and his own blog about the massive delays in getting his application approved. I myself submitted the Bush Countdown Clock last week and have yet to see it appear in the directory. I think the main problem is that the Facebook staff is now overloaded with new application submissions. This is actually lucky for me because users can now come to my blog to read more about each of the applications! Also, since I can’t cover all applications, I only pick those that I think would be useful for my readers or have a meaningful impact on the Facebook “social graph.” While there may be delays in getting your application approved, thanks to the viral impact of Facebook, your application will immediately start seeing adoption. My Bush Countdown Clock has close to 200 users and I have a feeling will grow higher once it is added to the Facebook application directory.

I also wonder though if Facebook is playing favorites when adding certain applications to the directory. For instance the Techcrunch application which was announced a couple of days ago has already been added. That would lead me to believe that there is a slight bias when seeking addition to the Facebook application directory. While I have already seen thousands of applications (many of which are duplicates of other applications or are of sub-par quality) a little over 300 are currently being listed. Facebook: hire me as the person who approves applications. This way I can be one of the first to blog about each of the applications and there will be a more efficient approval process. Well, maybe not me, but there definitely needs to be someone who is constantly approving applications. I’m sure they have the resources to pay an extra employee given that they’ve raised over $37 million in venture capital. We’ll see how this turns out!
