WhatsApp Payments Begins Rolling Out in Brazil

Sending money is free-of-charge for users, while businesses pay processing fees

The first countrywide rollout of WhatsApp’s new Payments feature kicked off Monday in Brazil.

People can send money securely or make purchases from local businesses without leaving their chats in the Facebook-owned messaging application.

A special six-digit PIN or fingerprint will be required in order to prevent unauthorized transactions.

Payments are enabled by Facebook Pay, and WhatsApp said that the goal is to enable people to use the same credit card information across Facebook’s family of apps in the future.
