TODAYshow.com, Immersive Media Offer 360-Degree View of Today's Vancouver Olympics Set

TODAYshow.com is showing its Olympic spirit by offering live, 360-degree interactive video of the set of NBC’s Today at Grouse Mountain in Vancouver, British Columbia, site of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

Two 360-degree cameras are being used — one with interior views of the set, and the other capturing outdoor views at Grouse Mountain. TODAYshow.com is also incorporating imLIVE technology from Immersive Media, which enables viewers to use interactive controls and explore the set.

The next live use of the technology will be Thursday from 7 a.m.-10 a.m. ET, but users can experiment with it in on-demand clips here, here, and here, featuring Wayne Gretzky, k.d. lang, and breakfast foods, respectively.

MSNBC Digital Network vice president of marketing Catherine Captain said:

TODAYshow.com offers viewers exciting ways to immerse themselves in the news. With the live video stream on the set in Vancouver, they can control the view and experience one of the biggest events of the year right from their computer. We love giving viewers an insider’s perspective that they won’t find anywhere else.

And Immersive Media chief marketing officer Larry Logan added:

Today is known for providing its audience with a window to the world. We are thrilled to give viewers a new way to experience Today with imLIVE 360-degree Web videos. This technology truly puts the viewer in the director’s chair. The audience will see interviews with athletes, on-set antics amongst the anchors, and more in a fresh, new, powerful way.
