Steve Jobs Says Video Direct To YouTube In iPhone 4's Future

Rumors are in the air that iPhone 4 users will, at some point in the future, have the capability to upload HD videos shot on their phones directly to YouTube. If this rumor, which was shared with MacDailyNews by one of their readers, is true then it could mean big things not only for iPhone 4 users, but for YouTube and citizen journalism as well. MacDailyNews reported that one of their readers, Chris T., received an email response from Steve Jobs, stating that in the future users will be able to upload videos to YouTube over the air. The email correspondence, as published on MacDailyNews, is as follows: Chris' email: Steve, I'm a HUGE fan of your products... MBP, Ipad 64gb WIFI, 2 iphone 3g's and now 2 iphone 4's... but I have a complaint... What's the point of building in HD video capabilities when the compression upon uploading directly to youtube makes the video's useless and not viewable? They're not even remotely viewable!! I was so excited about this feature on the Iphone 4, but sadly to say, this is a serious disappointment. In today's world, HD video is pointless if I can't upload it "as is" directly to the net. Sent from my iPhone Now for starters, with all the new features Apple has introduced on the iPhone it is a little bit strange that users don't have the option yet to upload their HD videos directly to YouTube. You'd think they would have ironed that out before the phone launched. After all, what's the point of having an HD video camera on your phone if you can't share your videos easily? That being said, direct to YouTube video upload could mean huge things for web video. If users have the option to direct their video content directly to YouTube it could mean a huge boost for YouTube upload numbers. Each time an iPhone 4 owner sees something funny on the street, or makes a video of their friends or family they will be able to upload it in an instant. I think that with this option people will be uploading a lot more videos than they used to. No having to sit down and take the time to upload videos to a computer and then to YouTube - with direct upload, users can upload videos instantly, as soon as they are shot. This could also be huge for citizen journalism. Armed with iPhones, citizen journalists can go out in the field - to protests and events - and shoot and upload footage while they are still in the field. Video clips of news events will make it on to YouTube even faster than they already are, revolutionizing the way we consume citizen journalist video clips.
