Rube Goldberg machines have taken over YouTube and the rest of the word. Inspired by cartoonist-engineer Rube Goldberg, Goldberg started the fad of creating big, elaborate machines to perform simple tasks (i.e. pouring OJ or making toast). We’ve compiled a list of 10 of the most amazing Rube Goldberg machines on YouTube. Enjoy!

Rube Goldberg

Before we get to the machines, here’s a little history lesson about Rube Goldberg, brought to you by Rocketboom.

OK Go – This Too Shall Pass – Rube Goldberg Machine version – Official

One of the most amazing and most popular Rube Goldberg machine YouTube videos is found in the OK Go video for ‘This Too Shall Pass’. Not only is the machine itself awesome, but they also did a fantastic job of incorporating the band members singing and timing the machine to the music. In fact, that machine even makes some music of it’s own at 1:23.

Japanese Rube Goldberg Contest

The commentary on this video is in Japanese, but it’s fun to watch regardless of whether you understand Japanese or not. This Rube Goldberg machine serves a very specific purpose – it makes Ramen for dinner. Hungry anyone?

Crème That Egg!

This Rube Goldberg machine smashes a Cadbury Crème egg. Personally, I love Cadbury Crème eggs and I think eating them is a better idea than smashing them. But the machine is still pretty awesome.

Honda – The Cog

Honda made a Rube Goldberg machine using parts of their Accord in a commercial campaign. The campaign got a lot of attention, with over 1 million YouTube views.

Best Rube Goldberg Ever

This Rube Goldberg machine incorporates all sorts of interesting objects, from an alarm clock to violin bows, an air hockey table, a slinky, toilet paper, a grapefruit, a chess set and more. Pretty freakin’ cool stuff.

MythBusters Rube Goldberg Machine

The guys from MythBusters took a break from busting myths to make a Rube Goldberg contraption to celebrate Christmas a few years ago. The machine is pretty neat. However, there are a lot of cuts in the video, which make me question whether or not they were really able to do it all in one take. Nonetheless, the MythBusters machine definitely win points for creativity.

Nintendo Rube Goldberg Animation

This is a cool animated Rube Goldberg machine with a Nintendo game theme. At least, it appears to be a Nintendo theme up until the sort of ironic ending.

Rube Goldberg machine from Waiting

And from the movie Waiting – A Rube Goldberg machine that pours you a beer! Nice.

‘The Falling Water’ – cocktail making machine

If beer isn’t your thing, how about a vodka tonic? This Rube Goldberg machine will make you a cocktail on the rocks.

The Way Things Go

And for the big finale – all the pyromaniacs that are obsessed with Rube Goldberg machines will love this one. It reminds me of the Honda commercial, only with way, way , way more flames. So which is your favorite machine?
