Gelato Adds Social-Networking Flavor to Online Dating

Online dating has been around for quite some time, but what about online dating that culls information from Facebook, Twitter, Hulu, Amazon, Flickr, Last.fm and Netflix? Welcome to Gelato, the brainchild of divorced entrepreneur Steve Odom, who took the service live in September, The New York TimesBits reported.

Users can import information from Facebook or Twitter and sync their accounts with the other sites mentioned above, and Gelato offers controls allowing users to delete individual items or keep them private.

The service is currently free-of-charge, but Odom told Bits he hopes to introduce premium accounts that would include features such as analytics and real-time alerts.

Odom told Bits:

Gelato is real-time search for online dating. Instead of static, carefully written profiles, it’s a much more dynamic profile created from what you’re doing around the Web. I found that if I followed someone on Twitter for a few days, I got to know a lot more about them than by just reading their profile.
