Facebook Now Prompting Users To Tag Photos As They Browse

Facebook’s recent integration of facial recognition software into their service resulted in mixed reviews from users, as many were not happy as it wasn’t always clear what photo was being tagged. The company is now testing an alternative tagging system which pops up notifications as you browse through photo galleries.

It’s definitely a clever technique which should increase overall engagement. It’s also less obtrusive in comparison to the first version which only displayed the individual’s face yet didn’t provide additional context. While I’m not sure that Facebook has actually removed the previous version, this new prompt for tagging users makes a lot more sense.

Have you noticed this new version? Do you think it’s less obtrusive or still a little bit too creepy?
