Facebook Launches in German

As expected, Facebook has rolled out the German version of their site. In a short amount of time since rolling out the Spanish version of the site, they have already added an additional language. Two days ago I speculated that the German version would be rolling out soon and now it has. It will be interesting to see what sort of growth Facebook experiences as they roll out their various languages.

Given the massive presence of Turkish users on Facebook I would expect a Turkish translation at some point soon. China is also a massive untapped market for Facebook. Currently there are over 146,000 Chinese members but with a Chinese translated version, Facebook could experience massive growth. Might we witness a global phenomenon? Potentially. If Facebook can successfully extend its dominance into other countries, their unmatched ability to track relationships.

It isn’t apparent if Facebook’s translation into Spanish has resulted in significant growth since it was rolled out only weeks ago. So far Columbia has over 1 million members but other Spanish speaking countries don’t have as large of a Facebook presence. Only time will tell but for now, all your German friends can now surf Facebook comfortably in their native language.
