Facebook Wished the GIF a Happy 30th Birthday By Adding It to Comments

The social network is also conducting a poll to determine the pronunciation of GIF once and for all

The GIF turns 30 Thursday, and Facebook is celebrating the milestone in several ways, highlighted by introducing the ability for all users to add GIFs to comments.

The social network began testing a GIF button for comments in March. Support for animated GIFs was added to its Facebook Messenger application in 2015.

Facebook said in a Newsroom post discussing its 30th anniversary initiatives:

We know people love communicating with GIFs on Messenger, and we’re also making it easier to use GIFs on Facebook.
