Facebook Enabled Management of Application Roles and Notifications Via Business Manager

A personal account on the social network is no longer required

Facebook announced an update to its Business Manager that will enable users of that platform to manage application roles and notifications without involving their personal Facebook accounts, or being required to create personal accounts.

Product manager Vijay Natarajan revealed in a blog post that Business Manager accounts can now be used to handle those functions, building on an announcement at the social network’s F8 annual developers conference in early May.

Natarajan said developers had been requesting a way to manage apps without either using their personal Facebook accounts or creating fake ones—which violates the social network’s terms of service—and the new feature makes it easier in cases such as people joining or leaving companies, sharing access with partners or ensuring that personal and business notifications are kept separate.

He wrote, “Now you can manage app roles in Business Manager via business accounts or emails, as shown in the screenshot above, instead of a personal Facebook account. Using Business Manager for these roles and permissions ensures that app-related notifications appear in Business Manager and are emailed to a business email address, rather than appearing in a business administrator’s personal Facebook account.”

Business Manager users can activate this feature by going to the Apps menu item under Accounts in their dashboard and clicking Add People.
