American Idol Consolidates Finalists' Social-Media Accounts

American Idol giveth, and American Idol taketh away: After creating individual accounts on Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace for each of the 24 finalists in its current and ninth season, the Fox reality juggernaut shut them all down, directing them to respective AI9Contestants accounts on Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace, according to Mashable.

Mashable reported speculation by both The Wall Street Journal and USA Today that the move was made to avoid the possibility of follower or fan counts influencing voting.
