Snap Inc. added Custom Landmarkers to its Lens Studio suite of tools for augmented reality creators.

Those creators can now anchor Snapchat lenses to local places such as statutes or storefronts and use AR to tell richer stories about their communities.

Custom Landmarkers are discoverable via Snapcodes at the physical locations being featured or via the lens creator’s profile, and Snap said its moderation team approves all lenses before they are made publicly accessible in order to ensure that they comply with its community guidelines and lens submission guidelines.

Snap debuted Landmarkers in 2019 with templates of 30 sites around the world for creators to build upon, including the Gateway of India and Egypt’s Great Sphinx of Giza.
