Snap Acquires Crowdsourced 3D Mapping Tech Outfit Pixel8earth

Snap Inc. confirmed its acquisition of crowdsourced 3D mapping technology company Pixel8earth.

According to a Form 10-Q filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Snap paid $7.6 million for Boulder, Colo.-based Pixel8earth.

The Pixel8earth team—co-founder and CEO Sean Gorman, director of analytics Chris Helm, chief technology officer Pramukta Kumar and software engineer Winnie Palangpour—will join Snap to work on its Snap Map product.
