YouTube Testing Revamped Design With Google+ Integration & New YouTube Guide

It looks like YouTube is testing out a brand new site design, complete with a revamped homepage, a brand new page called YouTube Guide, Google Plus and Facebook integration and more. Several YouTubers have reported that their YouTube accounts have been upgraded to the new design over the past week or so. Read on to learn more. The most noticeable change to the interface has got to be the YouTube homepage. Tech Laze published screenshots last week. The new homepage design, which not surprisingly shares a striking similarity to the design of Google Plus, the new Google Reader and other updated Google sites, also has some new features. It’s got a prominent left side navigation bar through which users can easily jump through the channels they are subscribed to, connect to Facebook, Google Plus (and possibly Twitter), and click to check out trending, interesting and popular topics. The other major change seems to be the edition of a YouTube Guide page, which is hosted at YouTube.com/Guide. The guide is currently available only to those that can see the upgraded design. YouTuber Shahrukh Hasan aka shasantv is one of these lucky users and he’s put together a video review of the new design in which he shows off the YouTube Guide, which users are apparently directed to when they click on the YouTube logo from the homepage. From the YouTube Guide, users are invited to browse categories to find interesting channels and subscribe to channels they like. These subscriptions will then be made available on the homepage. With the recent news that YouTube is about to launch nearly 100 professional content channels it makes sense that they’ve put together a guide to help viewers find the channels that are most relevant to them. YouTube’s VP of Global Sales, Lucas Watson, says that while nearly 100 channels will be launched by the end of 2012, "I hope that over the course of many years it’ll be hundreds and even thousands of channels." The YouTube Guide should be pretty instrumental in helping viewers sort through all these channels to find the ones that they’d most like to subscribe to, much like TV Guide helps people decide what they'd like to watch on TV.
