As the 2012 Presidential election is heating up, YouTube has introduced the YouTube Elections Hub, a one-stop shop for election news featuring coverage from eight different news organizations. Keep up to date on all the latest political news, live speeches from the upcoming Republican and Democratic National Conventions, live streams of Presidential and Vice Presidential debates, behind-the-scenes Google+ Hangouts and more.
Olivia Ma, YouTube News Manager, writes on the YouTube blog, “In addition to videos from politicians and parties, a diverse range of news organizations—both established names in media and sought-after new voices—are sharing their coverage of the political process on the new hub. You’ll find live and on-demand reporting and analysis from ABC News, Al Jazeera English, BuzzFeed, Larry King, The New York Times, Phil DeFranco, Univision and the Wall Street Journal.”
YouTube has really strived to provide a variety of different perspectives in their Election coverage. Ma told The Washington Post, “We want to offer multiple perspectives on the story from a diverse slate of news organizations – established names, new voices, international and Spanish language. Voters can browse between different outlets and have a conversation about what they are watching.”
It should be noted that the Republican National Convention and the Democratic National Convention (from August 27-30 and September 4-6, respectively) will be live-streamed for the first time ever on YouTube.
More people are tuning into YouTube for news and live events than ever before, so it’s no surprise that YouTube is jumping on election coverage and it will be interesting to see how many people will get their fix of election news from the online video giant.
Will you be watching coverage of the election at youtube.com/politics?
