Wimbledon Men’s Final Boosts Tennis.com

TennisComLogo.jpgSunday’s Wimbledon Championships men’s final, in which Roger Federer outlasted Andy Roddick in a five-set marathon, was an ace for Tennis.com, as it drew 104,022 unique users who ran up 994,250 page views. In comparison, the 2008 Wimbledon men’s final posted 83,234 uniques to 643,171 pages.

Not surprisingly, Tennis.com said traffic spiked during the fifth and final set.

For the entire two weeks of the tournament, the site reported more than 1 million uniques and 11 million page views, up 25% and 34%, respectively, versus 2008.

“What these Tennis.com numbers tell us is the importance of having an American in the mix,” Tennis/Tennis.com editor in chief James Martin said. “Players like Andy Roddick and Venus and Serena Williams have engaging personalities and large fan bases. Clearly tennis fans around the world respond in large numbers when the Americans do well.”
