MLB playoff teams heated up Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in September

As the 2017 Major League Baseball regular season draws to close, the teams that are set to participate in the league’s postseason dominated Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in September.

Social marketing firm Unmetric examined its cross-channel reports for all 30 MLB clubs in September, and they were dominated by playoff teams the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs.

Findings by Unmetric included:

  • The Yankees showed no signs of surrendering the top spot in audience size across the three social networks.
  • The Diamondbacks posted the most September growth on Facebook and Twitter, while the Indians did the same on Instagram.
  • The Indians swept engagement across the three social networks.
  • The Dodgers led Facebook and Instagram in posts, while the Red Sox tweeted the most.
  • The Cubs drew the most Facebook likes, while the Indians topped Twitter and the Instagram crown for the month went to the Dodgers.
  • The Dodgers also generated the most comments on all three social networks.
