Twitter Gets Another Head of Product as Part of a Reorganization

Kayvon Beykpour succeeds Ed Ho

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey unveiled a comprehensive reorganization, highlighted by general manager of video and former Periscope CEO Kayvon Beykpour succeeding GM, consumer product and engineering group Ed Ho as product lead.

Beykpour becomes the sixth head of product at the social network since early 2014.

Dorsey announced the moves in two tweets, here and here, and he said of Ho, “As many of you know, Ed Ho went on leave in May to recharge, and while he was on leave, his wife’s mother unexpectedly passed away. Ed has decided that he is most needed at home and isn’t ready to return to work full-time. Instead, he will work in a part-time capacity, advising our efforts one day per week on the health of the public conversation and helping staff where needed. It is his hope that he will be able to return full-time to Twitter, likely running a small, focused skunkworks team, and we hope to make this happen.”

According to Dorsey, Twitter is “moving back to a functional organization” from a “GM structure,” and its department leads are now:

Dorsey tweeted about the restructuring, “We’ve been operating under a general manager structure for a while, which I put in place to drive a stronger customer-focused approach and team dynamic. We have certainly made good on both, but it’s not a true GM structure in the sense of being full-stack … A pure end-to-end functional organization (organized by discipline) will drive clearer decision-making, enabling us to foster stronger culture, be more agile in making engineering trade-offs and, most important, sets us up for more creativity and invention, which is the phase we must now enter to continue to be relevant and important to the world.”
