Twitter expanded its policies against hateful conduct to include language that dehumanizes on the basis of age, disability or disease.
Dehumanizing people on the basis of religion was added to the rules last July.
Twitter said in a blog post that when tweets breaking these rules are reported, they must be deleted, but tweets that were posted before the update took effect Thursday will not result in any account suspensions.
The social network wrote, “We create our rules to keep people safe on Twitter, and they continuously evolve to reflect the realities of the world we operate within.
