Twitter Banned During Cricket World Cup

There will be no tweeting during the cricket World Cup this year, as officials ban the service in an attempt to minimize corruption.


Reuters reports that players and officials have been barred from using Twitter from their phones during official matches. This was a result of a suggestion from the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the body which oversees the game.

Apparently, there is some risk of information leaking out via Twitter to illegal gambling rings located in Mumbai.

Players, coaches and team managers are all prohibited from using their phones to send tweets during World Cup matches, which begin this Saturday.
