Twitter will soon add metadata to tweets that will allow users of its API to filter the tweets they call up by language and importance, the company said today.

Twitter will soon add metadata to tweets that will allow users of its API to filter the tweets they call up by language and importance, the company said today.

The filters will be available for streaming APIs that use Twitter’s data on websites other than Twitter.com and on REST.

The language of tweets will be determined by Twitter’s language-detection algorithms.

“Connecting to a public stream and specifying the language parameter … will only return Tweets that have been detected as being written in the specified languages,” developer advocate Arne Roomann-Kurrik wrote
