Tucker Carlson Launches The Daily Caller

Tucker Carlson launched news site The Daily Caller Monday morning, leading with a story about Carlos Allen, otherwise known as gate-crasher No. 3 at President Barack Obama's first state dinner. The site's sections are U.S., World, Politics, Business, Tech, Entertainment, Life, Sports, Opinion, Research and Video. It also features a blog called The DC Trawler with Jim Treacher and a question-and-answer feature called Ask Matt Labash. Jim Treacher is described as the site's resident blogger, while Matt Labash is a senior writer with The Weekly Standard. Carlson described his goals for The Daily Caller in an email to WebNewser: This is primarily a news site. We see our core job as straightforward: Find out what's happening and tell readers about it. We plan to be accurate and hope to be interesting. We're not launching this to grind any axes, or in reaction to any other site. We just think there isn't enough coverage of politics and government, so we're going to add some. We have a significant stable of in-house reporters and an even larger group of free-lancers, whom we're also paying. I'm reporting for the site, too. In fact I'm at my desk right now transcribing interviews I did this afternoon. It's been a long time since I've reported for print. I forgot how much I enjoy it. UPDATE: paidContent published a lengthy Q&A with Carlson Monday morning. And in the Letter from Tucker section of the site, Carlson wrote: Our blog is called The DC Trawler. It's hosted by Jim Treacher, a demented genius we convinced to move from Indianapolis a couple of weeks ago. Not your average person. You'll see. My old friend Matt Labash is writing an advice column for us. Not all of Matt's advice falls within the bounds of "conventional," or even "legal." On the other hand, I've lived by it for 15 years and I feel great. So go ahead and ask Matt anything. I dare you. His email is: askmatt@dailycaller.com.
