Yesterday YouTube announced that they are investing in 60 new original channels after a successful year with the first batch of nearly 100 new professionally created content channels. On the tails of this news, OpenSlate has put together a great infographic taking a look at the top 1000 channels on YouTube and the number of views, videos, subscribers and revenue they account for.
According to the infographic, the top 1000 YouTube channels (only 23 of which are part of the new original channels initiative, by the way) account for a total of 11.3 billion monthly views, 30,000 monthly videos and 462 million subscribers. The most popular category is music, which accounts for a quarter of all of the top 1000 channels, with gaming, comedy and entertainment following close behind.
The infographic points out that all of these top channels are engaged with viewers beyond YouTube. A presence on sites like Facebook and Twitter has helped these channels achieve their success.
But what we all really want to know is, how much money are these channels making? According to the infographic, “The average top 1000 Channel receives $23,000 net each month from YouTube ad revenue.” That’s $276,000 a year! Not too shabby, eh? Check out the full infographic below to find out more and let us know what you think about these stats!
