This Week In Viral Videos – Tons Of Violence, Cinema & Exploding Gnocchi

Our viral video picks this week include a bloody LEGO scene, the death of a beloved cartoon character, and a violent, GTA-inspired Mario Bros. movie trailer, along with a couple not-so-violent picks to even things out.

Generally I am the type of person who likes pleasant, cute and funny things like double rainbows and dancing babies, and our ‘This Week In Viral Videos’ collections generally express that. However, it seems that YouTubers are getting fed up with the happy holiday season and this week’s most popular videos have taken a turn for the dark side.   A bloody, violent LEGO scene, the death of a beloved cartoon character, and a violent, GTA-inspired Mario Bros. movie trailer topped the charts this week. Check the videos out below, along with a couple not-so-violent picks to even things out, and as always, have a wonderful weekend!

Yogi Bear Parody: “Booboo Kills Yogi!” ending

When you hear the term “parody” it usually makes you think of something funny, but this video is not funny in the slightest. However, I felt the need to include it on our weekly list for two reasons. For starters, it has been viewed nearly 2.5 million times in four days. But more than that, this parody makes the list for being amazingly constructed. Animator Edmund Earle did a fantastic job with this, and though it’s disturbing and brings a tear (or two) to my eye, there’s no denying the fact that it is brilliant.

Lego Black Ops

This awesome stop motion LEGO animation not only got over 1.5 million views in the past five days, but also inspired me to put together a list of the top 10 LEGO animations on the web. It’s pretty violent and bloody, but not quite as disturbing as the Yogi Bear parody, as it’s LEGO killing LEGO and not the beloved Booboo killing his best friend.

New Mario Bros. Movie Trailer | The Game Station Exclusive

This Grand Theft Auto-style Mario Bros. move trailer has also got over 1.5 million views so far and it has only been online for three days. It’s awesome because it combines the more realistic gaming style of today with the plotline from classic Mario Bros. games, including Goombas, Princess Peach, Bowser and the Mushroom Kingdom. I’m a huge Mario Bros. fan and a huge GTA fan, so if you ask me this is pretty sick.

Filmography 2010

On Tuesday we covered an amazing new film mashup that had just hit YouTube called ‘Filmography 2010’. At the time, the video had a mere 9,500 views. In the last few days it has blown up, accumulating over 1.2 million views, and I’m sure the view count will continue to grow. The video is a compilation of 270 great films from 2010. If you haven’t seen it yet you should definitely check it out below.

Introducing Word Lens

Alright, I’ve had enough of the violence, so here’s something that isn’t violent and is just plain amazing. This video, which introduces Word Lens, a new iPhone app, only has around 7,000 views so far but it was too incredible not to share with you. The app, which automatically translates signs into different languages, looks too good to be true. If only I had an iPhone to check it out on! If you’ve got an iPhone, please try it out and let me know if this is for real in the comments!

BONUS: Fried Gnocchi

And because of the shortage of hilariousness in this week’s viral roundup I wanted to share with you the most hilarious video that I’ve seen this week. It’s only got 175,000 views so far, which could be due to the fact that it doesn’t start getting funny until around the 1:22 minute mark. But trust me, if you stick with it and watch the whole thing you won’t be sorry! Enjoy, and remember…Never fry gnocchi!
