Tango Messaging App Updated with Social Shopping Platform

The messaging platform now allows users to shop from Walmart.com and AliExpress without leaving the app.

Tango, a mobile messaging platform with more than 300 million registered users, has today introduced social shopping functionality, in collaboration with Walmart and AliExpress. The service allows U.S. Tango users to browse millions of products, with support for curated lists of products based on user preferences.

With this social shopping feature, users can create their own item collections and share them with friends or family, and purchase items from Walmart.com or AliExpress without leaving the Tango app. Tango expects to expand the platform to include additional retailers and support more regions in future updates.

In a statement, Tango CEO and co-founder, Uri Raz, commented on the launch:

Starting today, Tango becomes more than just a mobile messaging service: we’re leading the way in “conversational commerce,” making it simple for consumers to connect with leading retailers using the same platform they rely on every day to chat with friends and family. Tango is excited to collaborate with Walmart and AliExpress to revolutionize blending commerce and communication, creating a new and exciting experience for consumers and sellers alike.

Tango is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store and Google Play. The app already offers more than standard text messaging, as it provides a portal for discovering and downloading new games, as well as the ability to follow branded channels to stay up-to-date with celebrities, news sites, sports stars and more.

This social shopping platform is part of an existing trend in major mobile messaging apps, which look to offer more than standard text messaging between users. Kik, for instance, released a built-in Web browser in 2014, while Yo recently introduced the Yo Store for subscribing to updates from users’ favorite online destinations and personalities.
