Someone Is Trying to Trademark ‘Dadbod,’ Create a Branded Beer

The dadbod IG account is already up and running.

Have we reached peak dadbod? CJ Cardenas, a talent manager in Los Angeles is trying to trademark the term “dadbod” and has been in touch with microbreweries to try and get a dadbod beer made.

“Dadbod is a lifestyle,” he told New York magazine’s The Cut blog. “Living in Los Angeles, in West Hollywood, you see so much focus on physical training and a perfect physique. But to a lot of girls, it’s not that it is intimidating, but it just doesn’t seem real.”

Actually to a lot of WOMEN (corrected that for you Mr. Cardenas), dadbod is the epitome of double standard. “Dadbod is a Sexist Atrocity,” shouts a headline for Time magazine article (written by a man!).

“It continues to reinforce inequality about what is acceptable for men and women,” the article says. “While the ladies have to go to Pilates and watch every single calorie, guys are free to let themselves get lazy, chow down on all the chips and guac they want, and still expect their prospective mates to be fit.”

And in a more comic turn, Kristen Schaal tackles the topic in this Daily Show clip. (h/t Jezebel)

To plant his flag in the dadbod trend, Cardenas has launched an Instagram page (That_Dadbod_Tho), but looks like he failed to make the avatar for the page an actual dadbod. We’re sure that model didn’t get that fitbod by eating a lot of cheeseburgers. Looks like Cardenas is taking this dadbod thing as far down to the bottom of the barrel as possible.

While dadbod is trending now, there are already some real issues with body image that could turn off a good number of prospective customers to whatever crap beer Cardenas is thinking of making. Dr. Pepper Like many other trends this one will likely get pushed aside when people remember that it’s stupid and get tired of saying the word “dadbod,” which is admittedly fun to say. Remember normcore? Or Dr. Pepper Ten? And is dadbod even a trend? Seems like men have always just looked like this.

At least we can give credit to Cardenas for admitting that he has a dadbod even if his most famous client, Bear Grylls, doesn’t.
