I have to admit that I thought the ad was pretty funny, and the CG animation and voiceovers are fantastic. But I couldn’t help but think about the fact that just last month a German woman was killed in a deadly shark attack in an Egyptian resort, and others were injured in similar attacks last month.

Stephen Colbert already poked fun at the shark attacks, but he was laughing at the fact that one conspiracy theory was blaming the Israeli Mossad spy agency and not at the actually shark attacks themselves. The Snickers ad makes a joke of sharks eating people and, according to some viewers, may even be promoting killing!

I know that Snickers created the shark focus group ad with sheer fun in mind, and it is pretty funny. But was this ad released to close on the heels of the recent Egyptian shark attacks? And does Snickers cross the line from funny to sick? What do you think?
