62% Of People Use Social Networks On A Second Screen While Watching TV [Infographic]

Use of “the second screen” is booming and more and more television viewers are watching their favorite TV shows with a device in hand.  Viewers are multi-tasking more than ever while watching television, whether it’s with a smartphone, a tablet or a laptop.  A new infographic from Confused.com takes a look at the latest second screen trends, including how many viewers are using devices to multi-task while watching TV and what they’re doing on these devices.

The infographic, ‘TV Goes Social: The Rise Of The Second Screen’, reveals that “roughly 4 in 5 tablet or smartphone owners now use their devices while watching TV.”  The US and UK lead the way, with 86% of US viewers using tablets while watching TV and 88% using smartphones, and 78% of UK viewers using tablets while 80% use smartphones.

What are these “second-screeners” doing?  Everything from browsing the Internet to chatting with friends online, checking up on their social media sites, shopping, searching for information and using second-screen applications.  62% of those surveyed say they use social networks and forums while watching TV on a weekly basis.
