Revolving Door: ‘Newsroom,’ Couric on ‘GMA,’ Palin on ‘TODAY’

The trailer for Aaron Sorkin’s new HBO series Newsroom has been released and it’s got it all — an irate newsman, viral video, F-bombs, and McCoy from Law & Order. The show debuts June 24.

Katie Couric is the week-long guest host of Good Morning America. She got started this morning.

After building suspense over the “legend” that would be making an appearance today, Meredith Vieira made a special appearance on the TODAY show to announce that she’ll be joining the crew to broadcast from the London Olympics.

And more TODAY show surprises this morning when Matt Lauer made a call to Sarah Palin, who will be hosting the show tomorrow. Matt asked if she’s reading newspapers in preparation. Zing!

NBC News is investigating the editing done on a TODAY show story about George Zimmerman’s 911 call in the Trayvon Martin case. Video was released last week of Zimmerman entering a Sanford police station seemingly without injury, contrary to early reports.

A group of local business execs have purchased Philadelphia Media Network Inc, the parent company of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News, and for $55 million, with another $10 million for operations. The owners have signed a pledge not to interfere with the newsroom workings. The company came out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy less than two years ago. [via]

The Hollywood Reporter‘s New York bureau chief and business editor, Georg Szalai, has been named international business editor, stationed in London, starting April 10. [via]
