Popular Mechanics Engineers an iPad App

Popular Mechanics is bringing its nuts-and-bolts know-how to the Apple iPad tablet, announcing the release of its iPad app, debuting at $1.99.

The Hearst Magazines title says its app includes embedded video, 3-D building plans, and interactive animations, such as: an interactive earthquake tracker with up-to-date seismic data; an animated, step-by-step demonstration complementing an item on building a tool-charging station; and an animated illustration of an extreme free fall without a parachute.

The debut iPad app does not represent a complete issue of Popular Mechanics, but the magazine said future releases will, adding that the monthly price is not yet set.
