Reddit introduced a new type of post Tuesday, polls, which enable its users to share their opinion by voting on questions shared by fellow Redditors.

Polls will be available for all Reddit communities except text-only communities, and starting Tuesday, they will default to “on,” although moderators can turn the feature off should they wish to do so.

Reddit said in a blog post that polls give its users a simple way to engage with the platform’s over 100,000 active communities, as well as making it easier for its 430 million monthly active users to participate in the conversation.

The company added that it is already seeing roughly 15,000 polls created each month via third-party sites.

Redditors who want to post a poll can visit a community, tap “Create a Post” and select the “Poll” option from the tabs. They can then enter a question and up to six answer options.

Reddit said polls can be open for up to one week, and the end time must be chosen at the time they are posted.

One of Reddit’s pilot testers for the polls feature was the National Football League, which ran a poll in the days leading up to Super Bowl LIV asking the simple question, “Which team will win Super Bowl LIV?”

Reddit said roughly 9,100 votes were cast, with the San Francisco 49ers edging the Kansas City Chiefs 4,600 to 4,500. The Chiefs got the last laugh, however, winning the game 31-20.

Polls were also tested in communities including r/PS4, r/Knitting, r/Premierleague, r/Casualconversation and r/Superman.

Reddit senior product manager Tyler Swartz wrote in the blog post, “Reddit’s content and community ecosystem is vast, so we know it’s important to provide different ways for people to interact with one another. Our hope in launching polls is to provide an easy entry point for new users by removing the barrier of posting and giving people the option to weigh-in and contribute to their favorite communities via a simple vote. In addition, users have the ability to comment on a poll, and we are excited to see the spirited conversation take place.”
