NYPD Chief Rips Ted Cruz Over ‘Muslim Patrols’ Idea

Backing the Blue, much? Way back, probably.

The New York Police Department has been dealing with an image problem for years.

However, the men and women in uniform are still some of the bravest civil servants on the planet, so let’s show some professional courtesy to those in blue, shall we?

GOP candidate and Eddie Munster dopplegänger Ted Cruz iwrote a Facebook post about the acts of terrorism that occurred in Belgium on Tuesday. And while he was offering the obligatory thoughts and prayers, he said something that really got under the four-starred collar of NYPD Police Chief Bill Bratton.

“We know what is happening with these isolated Muslim neighborhoods in Europe. If we want to prevent it from happening here, it is going to require an empowered, visible law enforcement presence that will both identify problem spots and partner with non-radical Americans who want to protect their homes,” the statement read.

And since he was stumping in New York, Cruz couldn’t help with the mudslinging, reports the New York Post.

When asked how he would patrol Muslim neighborhoods, Cruz said that “you would continue the proactive policing you saw here in New York” that surveilled Muslim communities under former mayor Michael Bloomberg.

“New York had a proactive policing program that Mayor Michael Bloomberg championed to work cooperatively with the Muslim community to stop radical Islamic terrorists,” said Cruz.

“And Mayor Bill de Blasio, when he came in a peak of political correctness and cancelled the program –that is refusing to acknowledge the threat that we have in the world.”

Bill-BrattonChief Bratton? If you will, sir…

“I would remind the senator that he lives in the United States of America, and the statement he made today is why he’s not gonna become the president of this country,” Bratton said during a joint press conference with Mayor Bill de Blasio. “We don’t need a president that doesn’t respect the values that form the foundation of this country.”

I have over 900 very dedicated [Muslim] officers in this department, many of whom do double duty,” Bratton said. “They serve as active duty members of the U.S. Military in combat, something the senator has never seen.”

Typically, when one dials 911, one doesn’t make requests for religious affiliation, much less for sexual persuasion or gender identity. And the idea of  idea of “securing” Muslim neighborhoods before they become radicalized is absurd.
