Memorial Day on Twitter: The Good, the Great and the Tasteless

Twitter is abuzz with Memorial Day chatter.

There are mostly remembrances and respectful tweets, sprinkled with a few jokes about sales and (at least) one place attaching it to a marketing  campaign. There’s always one, isn’t there?

We told you about Hashtags4Heroes, where they’re highlighting soldiers (past and present) – and beyond that, we see folks tweeting much of the same:

And then there’s THIS, from TJ Maxx. A “maxxinista” is a fashionista who shops at TJ Maxx. To me, this tweet is about as fitting as throwing confetti at a funeral, but hey:

Tasteless tweets aside, there’s a GREAT series that you really need to check out – the 100 faces, 100 hours project from CNN:

As the U.S. observes Memorial Day, CNN is honoring the fallen by spotlighting a U.S. casualty from the Afghanistan and Iraq wars every hour on the homepage through the weekend and the holiday. They’re from every state and from every branch of the U.S. military. They’re 18 years old and 60; they’re sons and daughters, mothers and fathers. And they’re just 100 of the more than 8,000 U.S. and coalition troops who have died.
