Look Who's Back! Inactive Users Get Promoted In Facebook Feed

Facebook has begun promoting those users who have been inactive for a while and suddenly return, hoping to get them to stay for a little longer this time around.

Haven’t posted on your Facebook profile in a while and would like people to know you’re back? No worries: Facebook has begun promoting those users who have been inactive for a while and suddenly return.

As the picture shows, inactive users who suddenly post new content get a little shout-out on their friends’ News Feed. This way Jesse can rest assured people notice his return, and others have a higher chance of interacting with Jesse’s new post, and (perhaps) welcoming him back. On a strategic level, the feature might encourage a casual or mostly inactive user to become more active over time.

Cool? Not cool?

As you know, Facebook is constantly making improvements to the way you socialize on their site (well, duh!). Yesterday, Facebook changed the way you searched for new friends, basically allowing you to do so in real time. Last month, Facebook tested your “Edit Friends” page, allowing you to see both your recent friends as well as outstanding requests, also letting you see what friends you had recently interacted with.
