Watch: A Motion Graphic Lesson About The Fine Art Of Infographic Design

A new motion graphic from data visualization and design firm Column Five explores the fine art of infographic design and may make you look at infographics from a whole new perspective.

Infographics and data visualizations are all the rage on social media sites these days.  We’ve seen infographics about everything from the best times to post to Twitter and Facebook to interesting facts about farts (seriously!) and everyone goes crazy for them.  A well-crafted and effective infographic can easily draw hundreds (if not thousands) of tweets and likes.  But what exactly makes a well-crafted and effective infographic?  A new motion graphic from data visualization and design firm Column Five explores the fine art of infographic design and may make you look at infographics from a whole new perspective.

Odds are you see new infographics on a daily basis.  Some are clearly better than others, but perhaps you can’t put your finger on exactly what makes you want to share some infographics while others fall short.  It probably has a lot to do with the design.

On the Column Five blog it is written, “The challenge of communicating information becomes especially difficult when trying to convey a message full of complex data, which is often difficult to interpret quickly and clearly to the naked eye.  This motion graphic looks at some of the many visual techniques used by Column Five to communicate information effectively to a large audience.”

Check out the motion graphic below and let us know what you think.  Do you recognize any of these techniques from your favorite infographics?  What are some of the best infographics you’ve seen and can you put your finger on what it was about them that enticed you to share them?
