The National Hockey League teamed up with chat engagement platform GameOn on a new Messenger bot that debuted just in time for the Stanley Cup Final.

The NHL Chatbot gives hockey fans access to content including news updates, game previews, notifications, scoring alerts, schedules, standings and in-game highlights in both video and GIF form.

The bot responds to fans’ natural language requests for specific content, players and teams, and users can choose which updates to receive.

The bot is powered by ChatOS, GameOn’s proprietary end-to-end development and integration platform for messaging and voice applications, which connects directly to brands’ content management systems, data sources and application-programming-interface feeds.

NHL director of digital business development Chris Foster said in a release, “We’re always looking for new ways to engage with our passionate fans and give them the customized, mobile-first content they want, when they want it. The NHL Chatbot we’ve developed with GameOn provides a unique and powerful touchpoint connecting fans to our content and platforms in an effective and efficient way.”

GameOn co-founder and chief product officer Kalin Stanojev added, “GameOn is bringing on-demand video highlights to chat, and chatbots are becoming an increasingly valuable tool for sports leagues around the world to engage authentically with their fans in richer, more dynamic ways. The NHL bot shows that the league is embracing new technology and helps extend its reach to a growing fan base by bringing meaningful, rich-content to where they already are, all customizable and with the latest in-game updates.”
